A labiaplasty is a procedure designed to help women deal with the embarrassment and discomfort of having large or uneven labia minora (inner labia). This is an issue that is often the source of much anxiety and embarrassment for women.
For many women, large and uneven labia cause pain and discomfort when engaging in sexual intercourse, riding a bicycle, running, or even walking. Some women are so embarrassed by their labia that they avoid sexual relations.
If you are concerned about the size, shape or unevenness of your labia, Dr. Pirani can advise you of your options for labial reduction and labial rejuvenation.
If you are concerned about any of the following then you may be an excellent candidate for labial reduction and rejuvenation:
• Large labia
• Uneven labia
• Labial pain or discomfort during intercourse
• Labial pain or discomfort while performing activities
• Difficulty finding appropriate clothing due to large labia
In addition, good surgical candidates should be relatively healthy. Smokers should quit smoking for at least 3 to 4 weeks prior to surgery.
There are several labial reduction techniques. They include simple edge excision, central wedge excision, and de-epithelialization techniques. The specific technique Dr. Pirani uses to perform your labiaplasty will depend on the amount of labial reduction you require. Dr. Pirani will provide you with a custom surgical plan to address your specific concerns, goals, and anatomy.
There will be some swelling present for a few days to weeks after your labiaplasty.
Most patients feel well enough to go back to work within a few days. You should avoid sexual activities for at least 4-6 weeks after your surgery. Dr. Pirani will see you regularly after your surgery to ensure that you are healing well and progressing well.
There is a large amount of information to review during a labiaplasty consultation. Your initial consultation with Dr. Pirani will take about an hour while he discusses all of the surgical options relevant to you. Dr. Pirani will then create a custom surgical plan for you. He will go over risks and complications and give you an idea of what you should expect in terms of results and recovery.
Dr. Pirani’s goal is to educate you so that you fully understand your customized surgical plan.
