Dermal fillers are a wonderful way to get the cosmetic results that you want without having to go through surgery. They are an excellent option if you are not sure whether you would like to commit to a more permanent surgical procedure. Safer and less invasive than surgery, it is no surprise that dermal fillers have been increasing in popularity.

But if you are pleased with the results of your dermal filler, you will need to know how long to expect your filler results to last.

Non-Permanent

To begin with dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance within your body. Hyaluronic acid naturally bonds to water and will attract more water to the injected areas. Because the filler is made up of the same materials that your skin is, it is generally well-accepted into your skin, quickly becoming a part of you. Yet, since the hyaluronic acid is indeed a naturally-occurring substance, your body will eventually metabolize it, just as it does the hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in your skin.

This means that fillers are not a permanent correction to a cosmetic problem and will need to be redone in the future if you would like to maintain your results.

How Long do Fillers Last?

Restylane Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, have fairly instant results. You should see signs of what the final result will be right away. The filler itself can metabolize in your body over the course of four to six months. The speed that you metabolize it is entirely dependent on your metabolism. You will be able to see signs that the filler is no longer working as the injected areas will gradually return to their pre-filler state.

The length of time is also dependent on where you had the filler placed and your individual needs. Each patient will be considered individually so the amount of injections you receive will likely be different than someone else who comes in for the same procedure. This also means the amount of injections you receive can alter the length of time that the filler lasts. There are no guarantees or certainties when it comes to the longevity of your filler, so just be sure that you understand it is not a permanent solution.

The Results

One of the greatest features of the dermal fillers is that you will see the benefits immediately. You might experience some bruising and swelling in the injection sites as well, but they will subside after a week or so. The fullness from the injection, however, will be noticeable immediately, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of the fillers even when you are still recovering from the simple procedure. You will be able to enjoy the results of the filler for several months before the procedure will need to be repeated.

Are Fillers Right for Me?

If you have been toying with the idea of receiving dermal fillers but have not committed one way or another, Dr. Pirani can help guide you toward the right treatment option to meet your needs.

Fillers are made to treat any facial area that might need some build-up. This includes your cheeks, lips, nose, chin, and even around your mouth. Fillers are an excellent way to decrease the appearance of aging in your face. As we age, we naturally lose the plumpness of our skin, making us look older. Fillers plump out the areas that have lost their fullness, giving you a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Pirani will be able to guide you through your dermal filler options to make a plan that will address your needs and personal goals.
